Writing blog: Confessions of a Wordsmith
May 13, 2012
Late last July, my debut chick lit novel, Rock Star's Girl, was released into the wild, wild world of readers, reviewers, and other authors. While getting a novel from idea, to manuscript, to finalized manuscript, to ready-to-read in multiple formats is quite the journey itself — and usually the journey you see chronicled by authors on their blogs, Twitter feeds, and Facebook statuses — there is also the "after." I know that I haven't given what comes after publication its fair share of press time, and I'm not entirely sure why this is. It's here in the after that a whole new world opened up for me. To celebrate International Chick Lit Month, and the Chick Lit Author Blog Hop, I'd like to share a bit about what came next for me as a chick lit author, and why it's such a wonderful genre and world to be part of.
Chick lit can be curious. You'll hear from some literary agents or fellow authors that the market for this genre is oversaturated. Some articles documenting the genre will paint you a picture of a big jump onto a chick lit bandwagon in the mid-00s, followed by a fall. You'll hear some people say that chick lit is dead — to this point, I respectfully disagree. While getting ready for publication, I happened upon a great site called... [Read full post]

This weekend is all about writing. I've been writing the sequel to Rock Star's Girl, along with writing a novel in a different genre, and outlining a non-fiction book. I can't wait to share each of these with all of you. I'm also about to finish up my post for the Chick Lit Author Blog Hop, which begins this Monday, May 14. Lots going on! If you haven't heard about the CLA Blog Hop yet, you can read about it over at fellow author Tracie Banister's blog. The blog hop celebrates International Chick Lit Month, and as of right now, 34 of chick lit authors (including me) are taking part. You can enter to win chick lit ebooks and a Sephora gift card! I'm very excited about next week. :)
I'm also very excited to share the title of the sequel to Rock Star's Girl. One reason I'm excited is because it means I'll no longer need to call it "the sequel to Rock Star's Girl," which is kind of a mouthful, don't you think? So here it is, the title of... [Read full post]

New beginnings happen in spring, and I'd have to say this is definitely the case for me. First, a piece of news that I'm so very thankful and grateful many of you have asked for: I'm now writing the sequel to Rock Star's Girl. I hadn't realized just how much I'd missed these characters until I started writing the sequel. I started it earlier this week and... [Read full post]
February 1, 2012
Is it really February already? It looks like 2012 is going to fly by the same way 2011 did. Remember to savor moments as the pace of life picks up, so everything isn't just one big race or blur. :) I'm lucky that I've already had some great moments this year, one of which I haven't yet mentioned on my blog.
On New Year's Eve, I was out at the Laugh Factory, ready to ring in 2012 with lots of laughs. At around 10 o'clock, I happened to look at the sales rank for Rock Star's Girl on Amazon, just to see where it would end the year. Imagine my surprise and absolute delight to see that it was on three Amazon US category bestseller lists, including the Women's Fiction bestseller list! It was also on a category bestseller list over at Amazon UK.... [Read full post]
