Writing blog: Confessions of a Wordsmith
February 1, 2012
Is it really February already? It looks like 2012 is going to fly by the same way 2011 did. Remember to savor moments as the pace of life picks up, so everything isn't just one big race or blur. :) I'm lucky that I've already had some great moments this year, one of which I haven't yet mentioned on my blog.
On New Year's Eve, I was out at the Laugh Factory, ready to ring in 2012 with lots of laughs. At around 10 o'clock, I happened to look at the sales rank for Rock Star's Girl on Amazon, just to see where it would end the year. Imagine my surprise and absolute delight to see that it was on three Amazon US category bestseller lists, including the Women's Fiction bestseller list! It was also on a category bestseller list over at Amazon UK.... [Read full post]

I'm excited to announce that Rock Star's Girl is free for Kindle until December 30! If you'd like to download it for free, you can get it at Amazon US, Amazon UK, Amazon Germany, Amazon France, Amazon Italy, and Amazon Spain.
If you don't have a Kindle but want to download Rock Star's Girl for free, Amazon has free downloads of Kindle reading applications for Windows PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry, Android, and Windows Phone 7... [Read full post]

Since Amazon announced KDP Select, which allows you to have your book included in a lending program but requires 90 days exclusivity for your book (so it can't be sold on other sites or from your own web site), I've been considering temporarily removing Rock Star's Girl from sites other than Amazon and enrolling in KDP Select to test it out.
As I consider this, though, I wanted to ask both readers and other authors how they feel about KDP Select. From the reader perspective especially, would you... [Read full post]

Just a quick note to say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the U.S. who celebrates, and a very happy Thursday, Friday, and weekend for those outside of the U.S. who either had Thanksgiving in October, or who don't celebrate it. This year and always, I am truly thankful to all of you out there who made writing and publishing Rock Star's Girl possible, and to everyone who has taken a chance on reading my book. Love and light to all of you.
It's a beautiful Thursday morning here. My dog, Pico, is laying beside me on the comfy red couch as I type and sip from a steaming mug of coffee. I just put a spaghetti squash... [Read full post]

Wow, it's been a full month since my last blog update. How'd that happen? The weeks seem to be whizzing by, with a lot going on! First, thank you to Kindle Mojo for listing Rock Star's Girl today, and thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read Rock Star's Girl. A special thank you goes out to those of you who have been so kind and thoughtful as to leave a rating or review, or to send me an email letting me know that you read it. I appreciate all of you incredibly much, and I don't think I can ever say that enough.
Last weekend was Halloween weekend, which is always a spectacular event here in La La Land. Did you know that Hollywood has a silly string law that goes into effect from midnight on October 31 until noon on November 1, every year? I didn't, until a friend of mine posted... [Read full post]

Wow. So it's been two weeks since I've updated my blog. Probably because it's been an incredibly busy two weeks.
For one of the two weeks, a friend from Montreal came to visit. It was a lot of fun to have her here, especially since I hadn't seen her since her last visit to L.A. over two years ago. This time I got to introduce her to the Hotel Cafe, Kitchen 24, the Rainbow, and Katsuya, and we also checked out a concert at the Hollywood Palladium.
On her last night in L.A., we decided to grab dinner at Saddle Ranch on Sunset, because she'd never been there but had heard about it. She'd also read about it in my book. It was still too early in the night for anyone to be riding the bull, but as we sat at our table, talking and eating our food, we noticed two men with guitars circulating through the room. They'd stop at a table every once in a while to play a song. I've never actually seen this at Saddle Ranch before, but I guess I must always have been there too late into the night...
