I Did
© 1999 by Jennifer Farwell

What would you say
if I yearned to be your goddess, and
What would you say
if I tried so hard for you?
What would you do
if I needed your affection, and
What would you do
if suddenly I knew?

I did.
And I do.

Would you hold me close
if I tried to slip away, and
Would you hold me close
if I cried in the night?
Would you love me again
if I tried harder to please you, and
Would you love me again
if I tried to make things right?

I did.
And I do.

I'm weightless now, baby
admitting my defeat.
I'm hopeless now, honey
I'm down and I am beat.
Can you feel the anger rising?
Can you even see?
I've never felt this cold
but are you listening to me?

Why don't you tell me
what you're really feeling, and
Why don't you tell me
what goes on inside your head?
Why don't you feel it
the love that I have for you, and
Why don't you feel it
when I'm lying in your bed?

I did.
And I do.
