Madison
© 2001 by Jennifer Farwell

(Intro)
Madison used to live here
and all the secrets that you keep
locked inside her nightmare
this is where she used to sleep
but she fell so far
and she got so high
and she swallowed hard
then she closed her eyes

Madison is empty...

We used to see the beauty
You used to see the point
in laughing, yelling, hugging, bawling
breathing for another day

We looked outside the window
You looked beyond the sky
to summer, drifting, flying over
escaping to the better life

(Chorus)
Fell so far and got so high
Swallowed hard then closed her eyes
No one thought to question why
Now Madison is empty, yeah
Madison is empty

They found you on a Sunday
I see you on a stone
I'm asking, wanting, pleading, knowing
wondering about it all

Chorus, etc.

Madison is gone

Writer's notes: "Madison" is based upon an memory from late childhood. It will always remain a lasting impression, the memory of when friends first confront and consider their mortality and how to deal with situations in their lives, things that will never show on the surface. I'm grateful that my friend is very much alive today.
