March 10, 2005

I came back, but I'm pretending I'm still there

Yes, I did come back from California. So let's not ask exactly how I feel about the fact that it's March 10 and approximiately minus seven billion degrees Celsius outside in O-town right now.

Cali was wonderful. I had such a great time. When I'm there, it feels like I was meant to live there. I mean, I am really and truly entirely at home. There are times when I don't even feel that way here! Things are so much more relaxed there, and it is so nice to be in the sunshine and not have to be bundled up, to wear sandals in February, to be able to walk barefoot on the beach and breathe in the ocean air. I love the ocean. I mean, really love the ocean. I think having grown up on Lake Superior makes me crave proximity to water, but there is something magical about the ocean, the waves crashing to the shore, the soft, sandy beach, seashells scattered all around, and there are people who get to live near such wonder. If I lived there, I think I'd be at the beach all the time, to just walk along it, even bring a book and read while sitting on the beach or a pier. The sound of the ocean is just so relaxing.

Yes, I think I'll be going back soon. :)

There are a few pictures in my gallery up, but for this trip, the majority of them are in a private album. You can only access/see the link to the private album by logging into my gallery if I have given you a username and password for it. I have lots of ocean and palm tree pics in the public album, but there are a lot of photos I wanted some controlled access to for various reasons, to be seen by family and friends only, rather than anyone who just surfs on in. There's a few of you I still need to give the login info to -- I'll get it to you soon!

For those of you who know me and have read prior rants on this blog, you'll find it amusing that I had a Ben Mulroney run-in on my trip down. I didn't realize who it was until we were in the Air Canada baggage office at LAX, but you will find it remarkable that we only talked about something he and someone else were down there for, and that I somehow managed to find the restraint not to ask him to please, for the love of God, get off our televisions and take Jon Dore with him. (See: post from September 2, 2003: Memo to CTV.)

Things are crazy, crazy busy right now. End-of-fiscal coincides with end-of-term and just about everything else on the planet... so that's about all I've got time for today.
