December 29. Ahhhhh. There are only a few thousand things I need to do over the next couple of days before the year ends, both that I need to do and have promised myself to do. Keep the old in the old. The last couple of weeks have been really busy, both with preparing for Christmas after finally having all that schoolwork done and then Christmas itself, and now I'm settling down, except I can't really settle down since I have lots to do. I'm just waiting for coffee to brew right now, then I must figure out dinner, and spend the evening completing items on the "to do" list. Even though it's the last week of the year, my life remains per usual, which is something like 6 a.m.: alarm goes off (optional: 1 to 4 rounds with the snooze button); the rest of the day: sehoihioehnblasehn (code for "goes by in a blur").
Message broadcast to Lisa: I'm not ignoring you, I will be in touch after New Year's. This same message broadcast to anyone else I may owe e-mail or other forms of reply to.
The iPod rocks more than I can say. It was a gift from my parents, and they chose well! I was completely surprised. I've been having a lot of fun with it, and the video quality is awesome. Also, I'm starting to notice when I'm in stores looking at iPod accessories, people who are also looking at them become so instantaneously friendly and helpful. :) Right now, iSocks are in the works. My mom started one while she and my dad were here, but due to a sudden flight change by the airline it became my task to finish. She said she's making more, though.
Here is a picture of my shiny new toy:
Its name is Buster. No, I don't usually name my tech toys. ;) It has a name because the iPod software asked me for one -- better to name it than to have something boring like "Owner's iPod" show up in my iTunes list!
Okay. Time to try and get rid of a lingering headache I woke up with this morning, and get to doing all that needs to be done. I can't wait til I do have it all finished, and what comes after: a fun New Year's Eve, seeing some friends I haven't seen for awhile (and more time to spend with those I do see more often), more time to spend investigating all things iPod; getting a chance to play with some new Photoshop filters and perhaps work on a new site design... and all this before the second week of January when the last round of chaos commences. I forgot to mention before that I have a day: March 29. That's the day the M.A. is finished and I get a lot more time to explore some of the things I've put on hold while living out this life goal. All things in time. :)
I got to open one present tonight, and I am officially an iPod girl. :) It's the very, very new one -- the one with video -- and stylishly shiny black. It shipped from Shanghai, China, believe it or not -- I've seen the FedEx packing slip!
So now I must rip songs from my CDs and go on a downloading binge at the iPod store, not only of m4ps but also of podcasts, and find some video just to try out (this will be awesome for when I'm on planes) and load some pictures on it too.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas. Mine's been terrific so far and very different, because it's the first one that hasn't been spent in Thunder Bay. It was raining here earlier tonight, believe it or not.
More later -- again, Merry Christmas to everyone. :)
Hey everyone -- just a note that I'm having some temporary technical issues with the domain for the next 24 to 72 hours. I *think* my web site is working again for at least some of the outside world, but I'm waiting for the name servers to re-propogate before I get e-mail back. If you've sent me anything, it's probably bounced. Apologies for that. Even though my domain is through a company owned by the same parent company as my web space/e-mail, it expires at a different time as my hosting package and so... in the busyness of this time of year, I forgot it was that time!
Brrr. I'm wrapped up in a blanket, sitting by the fireplace right now. It's cold out there! Yesterday morning was really pretty, though. There were all these ice crystals floating around in the air, reflecting the sunshine, so it was like the world was literally shimmering, walking through all the sparkles. It was definitely befitting of my morning, because very soon after being in awe of this wonder, I received my Christmas gift from the universe. I would like to take this moment to say thank you. :)
I had dinner tonight with a good friend whom I haven't seen for eons. It was so good to see them and hug them. I've been crazy busy and they've been crazy busy. I still feel a lot like I could just sleep for a couple of weeks straight, and I'm looking forward to school being done so I can have all that time back again. I didn't really appreciate having that time, the year I took off between my Bachelors and Masters degrees. In the last month or so especially, it's felt like I haven't even had time for me, to even rest properly. It's kind of overwhelming sometimes, because even when I do have time, I often just feel like chilling.
I should be doing something for school right now. Yes, classes and those assignments are done, but I defend in a month so there are some things still to do. Instead, I am blogging. I know. ;) I think I might go have a long, hot bath, change into soft, comfy clothes and put on some relaxing tunes.
I'll leave you all with a cheery Christmas picture of my tree. :)
I've happily rejoined the world, at least for the next month. It's nice to once again have time to, you know, pluck my eyebrows. You only think I'm kidding. All I can say is it's a good thing that they're naturally somewhat thin to start with, which, when considering the Italian/Slovenian part of my heritage, is just one example of the many recessive genes comprising my physical appearance that continue to baffle all laws of heredity.
Now that I'm back in action, there are soooo many things I need to catch up on. Christmas shopping being number one on that list, although perhaps in a tie with a nice, thorough cleaning of my house. I have a near-obsessive/compulsive disorder with its state of cleanliness, and oh, praise be to those who invented the Mr. Clean magic eraser. Dude, what is that? For a clean freak, it is fascinating to no end.
Also, I can now put up Christmas decorations! Last night, upon opening up the three huge storage containers of these (two of them just recently sent to me by my parents), I realized something. There is one thing, one small, rectangular, orange-coloured box, with a piece of black electrical tape stuck to it, some writing on the side in black magic marker and a few bits of tinsel from a Christmas or several sometime over the last two and a half decades, that to me is just irrefutably Christmas.
At one time, sometime in the late 1970s or early 1980s I'm guesing, it was a box filled with mandarin oranges. That box, from the time of my first memory, has always been filled with some of my family's Christmas decorations. It may in fact be older than I am. The decorations stored within it have changed throughout the years, but it has always remained. Now, it's found its way into my home, to continue the tradition.
As I unpacked it from the rubbermaid container it was shipped in, along with myriads of other Christmas decorations, I thought about this. How it's always been something to truly stir up the Christmas feeling in me, how it makes me happy to see and unearth the decorations from. So now that it's been opened... now it's Christmas.

KRP, I've been thinking about you a lot since last week. Lots of love.
To those I owe e-mail to: very soon. :) I've got a whack of things to catch up on this weekend, sleep included.
To the world at large: for anyone interested, I put up a MySpace site. There's not much on it right now, but it's a pretty cool place for networking, so if you're reading and have a MySpace site as well, please give me a shout -- www.myspace.com/goddess_of_geek.
The first week of December, so we all know what that means (and if you don't, I'll tell you)...
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to post a quick note that my blog will be back in action late next week. I'm in the middle of end-of-semester insanity right now, finishing up some really big assignments, so I'm in lockdown until those are finished. All work, no play, I know, I know... ;) I'm trying to look at it more as I've really been enjoying what I'm studying, so to NOT give these assignments my full attention would only make me upset with myself, with only a half-credit left to go in my M.A. once all of this is turned in.
I hope everyone has a great weekend, and I'll be back posting sometime after Wednesday or Thursday next week.
