Tune it in, turn it on...

Hey everyone, and a good Tuesday morning to you all. Just a quick note that Tommy Kende of Juke Kartel will be interviewed on Ottawa's CHIN radio (97.9 FM) this morning at 11:20 a.m. EST. For those of you who are not in Ottawa, you can tune in to the station online, by visiting www.chinradio.com and choosing Ottawa 97.9 from the "Listen Live" list on the left-hand side.

For anyone new to Juke Kartel, they are the Aussie rock band fronted by Rock Star: Supernova finalist Toby Rand -- and five of the friendliest, awesomest guys that I know. They played here in Ottawa back in December, a much-remembered show and after party by many (coughahem5a.m.coughahem), and are currently on tour with Rock Star Supernova and the Panic Channel. Anyone who has been at one of their shows and/or after parties wants them to come back... so check out the interview with Tommy, and then check them out online at www.myspace.com/jukekartel and www.jukekartel.com.

Have a fantastic day, and more blogs sometime soon... :)

The February State of My Mental (Dis)union Address

Or: "I'm like a bird, I'll only fly away..."

Welcome to February, and a happy one to all. Here in North America (or at least this part of it), it's often thought of as the coldest month; the cruelest month. Dar Williams has a song called February that captures the essence of this beautifully. But this year I will not dread February... no. I will celebrate it, each step and breath I take. While that breath freezes approximately 2 centimetres from my mouth and drops to the ground, crystalized in ice form. The bright side: the cold sure jolts me awake much faster than coffee can. There is always a bright side. It would be brighter if I was pondering it while on a beach somewhere warm and palm tree-y, but... lemons and lemonade.

The rundown of the last several weeks:

Random funny happening: in the world according to Dave Navarro, I'm like a bird, and if I was a cartoon character, I'd be Tweety Bird. Um. Like most things in my life, don't even ask! But hey, new nickname. Or not.

Montreal rocked, good times, good tunes... a moment I think I'll probably just call "in vino veritas" but hey, it made me happy, and continues to prove the point that you should always ask and not miss the chance. Seize the moment, people, because you may never have it again. Even if the theory of eternal recurrence states that you will. Or something like that. Just trust me.

Writing: sorely neglected in lieu of the holidays, gym time, work extreme busyness, etc. Back to it this month, with renewed discipline and inspiration.

Quirks: sudden and random abnormal fixation with "Hotel California." Couldn't tell you why.

Songs: This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race (Fall Out Boy); You and Your Hand (Pink); December (Juke Kartel); Hotel California (Eagles); My Love (Justin Timberlake); Say It Right (Nelly Furtado); Paralyzer (Finger Eleven)

Question: why has Canada done nothing to discourage its reputation as the 51st state, by following through with the new Daylight Saving Time start and end dates? Sleep, people. It's a wonderful thing. I know, because I haven't had much of it this week, and I miss it dearly.

Observation I'm not explaining: I really need to start tying things to me, like mittens on strings. No, really and truly. Although I'm pretty sure the latest installment of the "Things You Really Don't Want to Lose" show, an episode I will call "The Great White Black Hole Called The Snowbank," was directly related to sleep deprivation.

That's all for tonight, I'm out... soon to be TGIF, so an early happy Friday to all!
